About The Cloud

The cloud offers a way to outsource computer equipment and its maintenance, while providing a way to easily scale computing power as needs change. There are three main types of cloud computing, Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS). Choosing what type of cloud solution your business needs is a tough decision, let an iManaged professional help you make the right choice.

Infrastructure-as-a-Service

IaaS is the most basic of all the types of cloud computing.  With this type of cloud computing the cloud provider offers their physical hardware, normally in the form of virtual machines, for businesses to use. Operating Systems and software applications are left to the end-user to install and maintain in this cloud environment.

Platform-as-a-Service

PaaS provides a computing platform where businesses can develop and/or run their own software solutions, without worrying about the platform software.  This cloud solution provides IaaS and also includes an operating system and sometimes select software applications that are installed and maintained by the cloud provider.  This allows end-users to focus on their applications and data not the underlying hardware or software it runs on.

Software-as-a-Service

In a SaaS environment, the cloud provider provides all the hardware and the software the business needs.  This way eliminates almost onsite IT needs, because the cloud provider sets up and maintains all the hardware and software.  Software like Quickbooks, Office, Exchange and many others can be run under a SaaS solution.
